Malorie Blackman on the importance of reading

18 October 2013 //  by First Story

In July, as part of the Royal Society of Literature Outreach Programme, Children’s Laureate Malorie Blackman paid a visit to First Story school, Skinners’ Academy.

Listen here to an exclusive interview with Malorie before her talk at Skinners’, where she discusses the importance of reading and author visits to schools. Malorie Blackman headlined the First Story Young Writers’ Festival on 19 September, inspiring 700 young writers with her words.

The Royal Society of Literature Outreach Programme: Since 2012 First Story has worked in collaboration with the Royal Society of Literature to give state school pupils access to some of the country’s most renowned writers. As part of the programme, RSL Fellows visit First Story schools where they discuss their work with a large audience of students and teachers. Each school receives a selection of the visiting Fellow’s books for their library and, where possible, the events are recorded and uploaded on the RSL website.
